LOS ANGELES, CA  - The Los Angeles Black Book Expo will take place at the Sheraton Gateway LAX Hotel on Saturday, August 21 from 10:00 AM until 6:00 PM.

 

The annual literary celebration promises to feature lively panel discussions and workshops with topics such as publishing, urban lit, health, relationships, cultural issues, spirituality, creative writing and marketing tips for aspiring authors.

 

Poetry open mics and children’s programs will also be included throughout today. An After Party featuring entertainment from local performers is scheduled later in the evening.

Featured guests scheduled to appear are keynote speakers are legal expert and author Areva Martin (The Everyday Advocate) who has appeared on The Dr. Phil Show, as well as national stints on Fox News, NPR, and Court TV Radio Television, and Dr. Richard Williams, the recipient of the 2002 Educator, Author, Lecture Award’ from the Martin Luther King, Jr. Greater Rochester Commission and the author of They Stole It But You Must Return It and is has been featured on shows such as Oprah and the Black Entertainment Network, Morton Downey Show, and the Oprah Winfrey Show television program. Other guests include Jacqueline Luckett, reading from her novel Searching For Tina Turner, Shay Olivarria, speaker and author of Money Matters Money Matters: The Get It Done in 1 Minute Workbook and 10 Things College Students Must Know About Money, plus other speakers to be announced at a later date.

About the Los Angeles Black Book Expo

The Los Angeles Black Book Expo through its fiscal sponsor, Amen-Ra Community Assembly of California, Inc. (Amen-Ra Theological Seminary) is a 501(c) (3) organization. It began on June 2004 to celebrate the written word, promote literacy and to showcase new and established authors, storytellers, spoken word artists, children's book authors, emerging writers, publishers, booksellers, editors and book reviewers local and nationwide.

Everything You Need To Know About Self-Publishing

…And Then Some

taught by author and attorney, Pamela Samuels Young,

Author of the best-selling novels Buying Time and Murder on the Down Low,  Pamela will show you how to get your book in print and will also discuss the economics of self-publishing, distribution channels and promotional opportunities. Most writers do a lousy job of promoting their books.  So whether you're self-published or with a major publisher, this workshop will show you unique and cost-efficient ways to get your book in the hands of readers.

 

There will be a break for lunch.  Either bring your own lunch, or pick up something at one of the fast food places in the area. There is a refrigerator on the premises.


NOTE: This workshop will fill up fast, so sign up early.  Cost for the workshop will be $25 for Sink members, $35 for non-members.  (This might be the time to join SinC!)
